As the opening day got closer, we realised we needed to focus almost entirely on the mural because time was running out. We had originally planned to complete the flower beds and some of the other design work beforehand, but delays with sanding, painting, and waiting for materials meant everything took longer than expected.
To make things even more interesting, I was also balancing my normal job, a swimming course, college work, and my Nuffield placement which had overrun. Some days I was getting up at 5am, travelling to Croydon, working all day, and then heading straight to the mural afterwards. It was exhausting. Despite all of that, we managed to finish the mural just three days before the grand opening. This taught me a lot about managing my time, staying motivated when I’m tired, and pushing through challenges when things don’t go to plan.
