Improving Existing Designs
A big part of my extended placement involved revisiting and improving designs I had created during the original project. Going into it, I thought it would be a fairly straightforward task, but I quickly discovered that there were plenty of little details that could be refined.
Looking back at my earlier work was a strange but rewarding experience. Some things made me think, “I’m glad I did that,” while others made me wonder why I ever thought a particular idea was a good one! It was a clear reminder of how much I’ve learned and how my eye for detail has developed over time.
This process taught me that design is never really finished there’s always another way to improve it. It also helped me become more confident in giving my own work constructive criticism, which is something I know will help me throughout my career.

Creating a Presentation for Management
tasks I worked on was creating a presentation for management. This felt quite different from my usual design work because the focus wasn’t just on making something visually appealing it was about telling a clear story and communicating information effectively.
The challenge was finding the right balance between keeping the presentation professional while also making it engaging and easy to follow. It made me think much more carefully about how information is organised and how different audiences absorb information.
I enjoyed stepping outside my usual comfort zone and developing a different set of skills. It reminded me that good design isn’t just about colours, layouts, and graphics it’s also about helping people understand ideas quickly and clearly.

An Ongoing Project
One thing that makes this placement unique is that the project is still very much alive. Unlike some projects that have a clear beginning and end, this one continues to grow and develop, with new challenges and opportunities appearing along the way.
Being involved in a longer-term project has given me a much better understanding of what working in a professional environment is really like. You can’t just focus on what’s happening today you need to think about where the project is heading next and how today’s decisions might affect future work.
It’s also been rewarding to build stronger relationships with the team over time. Continuing to work on the project has helped me feel more involved and trusted, which has boosted my confidence and encouraged me to take on more responsibility. I’m looking forward to seeing where the project goes next and continuing to contribute to its development
